Sign up for a one on one portfolio review with Stephen Leslie. Each participant will have up to 20 minutes to share and discuss their work.

He is a photographer, writer and film maker from London with over twenty five years of experience as a street photographer both in the UK and on extensive travels abroad. His work has been featured in numerous magazines and websites, including GUP, HUCK, EYESHOT, SEEN, FRAMELINES, LENSCULTURE, THE GUARDIAN, ERIC KIM, THE PHOBLOGRAPHER, TIME OUT, C41, ALU, STREETPHOTOGRAPHY.COM, WONDERZ OF PHOTOGRAPHY, ON SPOT GALLERY and 121 CLICKS. The list goes on....

In addition to photography, he also direct films and write screenplays. He is currently working on a biographical film about Lucian Freud, Leigh Bowery and Sue Tilley for the BFI and a film about a talking sloth for Newscope films. That's right, a talking sloth.

NYC-SPC Presents Camera Work: Stephen Leslie

Join us in a discussion with London based photographer, writer and film maker Stephen Leslie. Stephen's first solo book, SPARKS was published by Unbound and Penguin. Lensculture described the book as “funny, deep, at times disturbing, at other times profoundly hopeful. But every image gets remade in ways that hold a bit of genius". The sequel MOSTLY FALSE REPORTS will be published later in 2023. He holds an impressive twenty five years experience as a street photographer both in the UK and on extensive travels abroad.

Tickets are donation based and you can donate as little as $1 plus processing fees. Donations will go towards beer and basic operational cost.

Join us at Contact Gallery for a casual movie night watching Camera Buff, hosted by NYC-SPC Member Zach Cabanas. Camera Buff is a 1979 Polish drama film written and directed by Krzysztof Kieślowski and starring Jerzy Stuhr. The film is about a humble factory worker whose newfound hobby, amateur film, becomes an obsession, and transforms his modest and formerly contented life.

117 minutes

Popcorn and a chance to talk about the movie will be available.

NYC-SPC Presents Camera Work: Alice Arnold

Join us in a discussion with Alice Arnold. Alice Arnold is a documentary media maker and educator. She creates, edits, designs and photographs projects that explore the urban environment and visual culture — from street art to advertising and from sidewalks to electric signs. Her films are in the collections of university libraries throughout the United States and have screened at MoMA and other festivals. She is a NYFA Photography Fellow, a Fulbright Fellow in film and an Adjunct Professor at the City University of New York. She recently published "Goldie Timeless" (Cafe Royal Books), a small photo book about a drum n' bass event in 1995.

NYC-SPC Crit Meeting #86 Hosted by Zach Cabanas and Jorge Garcia

Join us for a guided conversation of your work with NYC-SPC member Zach Cabanas and NYC-SPC Director Jorge Garcia This is a great opportunity to meet members of the street photography community while discussing work critically. Meetings give individuals the chance to share work, experiences, techniques, and whatever else helps people advance as street photographers.

We will only be accepting work prints for critique. No flash drives or unprinted work will be accepted at this time. 15 photos max. We recommend small work prints, 4x6 or 5x7, as the photos will be handled or taped to the wall. You are welcome to email your image files to Lab@nyc-spc.com for us to print prior to the start of the Crit. Prints start at $.35 for a single 4x6.

Ticket options include guest for those interested in participating or listening in on the discussion and presenters for those planning on presenting work for discussion.
